Granite, considered as much harder and more resistant marble's sibling, is one of the favorite materials of conteporary architecture, both interior and exterior.
The word granite comes from the Latin granum, a grain, in reference to the coarse-grained structure of such a crystalline rock. Inital state of this igneous rock was magma, and as such, intruded into the Earth's crust, it can be found in all geological periods; Precambrian age mostly. Depending on it's chemical and mineral composition, granites can display a variety of colors and patterns with common characteristics; their mass and resistance to external conditions. Looking back at the history, granite had been in use as a construction material of ancient pyramids, whereas today, due to atmospheric changes, it supstitues marble as material of choice in exterior decoration/construction. None the less, granite has proven to be a very practial solution home decoration; whether in kitchen sufaces, bathrooms, balconies or staircases.
